Annual dues were increased to $75.

One hundred people attended a Bon Voyage Party at Two Lights State Park for District Governor, Harold Fralich, prior to his visits to each club in the district. Ladies were invited and a chicken dinner was catered by Carolyn's.

 

Rotary International President Jack Davis from Hamilton, Bermuda, was at the Rotary Club of Portland Portland on August 19.

Pierre Bourgeois from France was hosted by families of our Rotary Club during October. He was interested in visiting local factories.

District Governor, Harold Fralich visited our Club on November 16. The meeting was held at the Merry Manor. Dick Kilroy was made a Paul Harris Fellow by the Club and Harold Fralich was made a Paul Harris Fellow by his wife, Marge. The balance of the evening was spent in dancing.

Profit on Christmas Trees was $4,201.

We donated $1,000 to the Campfire Girls Outreach Program. 

District Treasurer, Sarando Giftos, and his wife, Helene, both became Paul Harris Fellows.

Our club sponsored a Sunday night performance of "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" at the Phyllis Schyler Thaxter Theatre on May 21.

A Hawaiian Ladies' Night was held on May 31. Members dressed Hawaiian style. Mason Philip Smith, local photographer, treated the group to a slide show of Hawaii with toped music of the Islands.

Ray Frost made the donation necessary to name his wife, Dorothy, a Paul Harris Fellow. Ray, an active Rotarian for 42 years with 27 years of perfect attendance, was the District Secretary.

They have long been known as Mr. and Mrs. Rotary in the District.

The District added a new club in Frobisher Bay. This is just 100 miles from the Arctic Circle.

Our meeting on June 21 was canceled as many of our members attended the District Conference at the Balsams, Dixfield Notch, New Hampshire on June 22-25. The organization was superb with special thanks being given to Chairman Don Jenis. It broke the record for attendance with 570 present. Les Waters won the golf tournament. Sam Giftos reported that it was the most expensive conference to date. For the first time French translators using radios provided simultaneous translation.
