Traditional activities continued during the year 1991-1992 :
The annual lobster bake was held at Fort Williams with a dozen members and spouses from the Rotary Club of Wellsley MA in attendance.

Two spouses' nights were held.

At Christmas time we held the senior citizen's party.

An exchange visit was made with the Rotary Club of Wellesley by 10 of our members.

We sponsored a graduation reception. 

 

Selected and awarded citizenship awards to three non-Rotarians.

Awarded four scholarships to high school students.

Carolina De Souza Campos Gazal from Santos, Brasil was our Rotary exchange student. She stayed with Dave and Fran Bagdasarian, Dan and Shirley Mooers, and Doug and Pam Stewart.

Bill and Diane York's daughter, Joanna, spent her junior year in high school in Indonesia.

Fundraising projects, which raised approximately $25,000, were our Christmas tree sale, two theatre nights, and fried dough sales at Deering Oaks and Fort Williams.

We marked the upcoming 75th anniversary of the Foundation of Rotary International by offering a $500 matching amount from accumulated credits to anyone becoming a Paul Harris Fellow.

Seven new Paul Harris Fellows and two Rotarians committed to the Foundation of Rotary International Endowment for World Understanding and Peace.

Dick Jordan, a charter member of our club and a current member of the Rotary Club of Windham died in a tragic fire accident in early 1992.

 

In March, Joanne LeClair and Agnes Winship received a Discovery Grant from Rotary International to travel to Mexico and visit Jalapa, the sight of a Rotary Village Corps project. This project sponsored in conjunction with the Rotary Club ofGoonellabah, Australia.

On the weekend of May 14 our club sponsored a group of students from Quebec to visit Maine. We in turn sent a group of local Maine students to Quebec later in the year.
