CORPORATE SPONSORS AND TEAMS NEEDED FOR 2003 BOWLATHON

Cape Elizabeth - Rotarians hope to "strike out" polio world wide with a fund raising bowling day on Sunday, March 23. It's part of a multi-year Rotary International fund raising effort to eliminate polio and other childhood diseases around the world.

The South Portland/Cape Elizabeth Rotary Club will "spare" no efforts in organizing its Eighth Annual Rotary Bowling Classic to be held at Yankee Lanes in Portland from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with awards and pizza and sandwiches for the participants to follow.

Rotarian and event chair Adrienne Murphy is hoping to raise as much as $5000. "We're setting up teams of bowlers but individuals are definitely welcome too," says Murphy. "The donation is suggested at $25 per person with corporate sponsorships at $250. But we're willing to 'negotiate'," she adds.

Rotarian Hendrick Fischer's company, HamaTech, has agreed to underwrite most of the expenses of putting on the bowlathon so all proceeds can go to the polio effort.

Anyone -- or any organization/company -- that is interested should contact Rotarian Bill Daviero (799-8643) for more information and to obtain individual or corporate pre-registration packets. "Walk-ons are also welcome," says Daviero.

Proceeds in previous years have been donated to organizations such as a national youth anti-drug campaign and to Literacy Volunteers. During the past Rotary year, the club's total fund raising activities contributed more than $25,000 to benefit numerous local and international charitable organizations and scholarships.

2003 Bowlathon Huge Success!

We had 69 bowlers participating in our "Strike Out Polio" Bowlathon on Sunday, March 23 at Yankee Lanes in Portland - the most we have ever had. It was a very fun day, and generated good income for our Polio Eradication effort. It also proved that you do not have to be a good bowler to have fun (I speak for myself!).

Final tallies are not in yet but we are well over $4,000. (Cheers!) If you have outstanding pledges, pin pledges, etc, please bring them to our meeting or let me know the status.

Many thanks to organizer and emcee Bill Daviero, Hendrick Fischer and his company's (Steag Hamatech) sponsorship of $500.00 to underwrite the event, team captains Mariann Goff, Eleanor Brainin, Christian Smith and Frank Butterworth and everyone else who contributed to the success of this event.
